Transportation Design Intern - Utah

Turn what you are learning in the classroom into meaningful, hands-on experience with Civil Science. As a Transportation Design Intern, you will support projects that improve the roads, infrastructure, and communities people rely on every day.
This Summer 2027 internship is available at any of our Utah office locations. You will work alongside experienced engineers, surveyors, designers, inspectors, and other professionals while gaining exposure to transportation, municipal, and development projects throughout Utah.
What You’ll Do
Assist with the planning and design of transportation, municipal, and development projects.
Support roadway design, land surveying, construction inspection, and CADD-related assignments.
Help prepare engineering drawings, plans, exhibits, calculations, and project documentation.
Assist with collecting, organizing, and reviewing field and design data.
Participate in site visits and field assignments to better understand how engineering plans become completed projects.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, surveyors, inspectors, and project managers.
Learn and apply Civil Science’s technical standards, quality-control procedures, and safety practices.
Take on meaningful responsibilities based on your experience, interests, and project needs.
What You’ll Bring
Current enrollment in civil engineering, construction engineering, or a related program.
An interest in transportation, roadway design, construction, surveying, or public infrastructure.
A working knowledge of civil engineering concepts related to roadway design, land surveying, construction inspection, and CADD.
A willingness to learn, ask questions, take initiative, and take ownership of your work.
Strong communication skills and a dependable, team-oriented approach.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet Civil Science’s driving requirements.
Experience That Will Help You Stand Out
Recent academic, internship, or project experience involving highway or Department of Transportation projects.
Experience with design software such as Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar programs.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, or field data-collection tools.
Construction inspection, materials testing, or similar field experience.
Experience with these programs is helpful but not required. We are looking for someone who is ready to learn and grow.
